Tasks included: Content Development and Improvement for the ISCU social media and blog. The specifics of this role involved analysing the ways the Immigrant Services of Champaign-Urbana (ISCU) supports the local immigrant and refugee community through its social media and blog. My analysis emphasised the need for volunteer-focused content and addressing the need for multilingual accessibility (especially French and Spanish translations) which would ensure the Champaign-Urbana immigrant community fully understood the services available to them. This experience highlighted the vitality of these services in providing holistic care for immigrant communities, and greatly improved my communication skills and understanding of local organisations. During this placement I provided voluntary support at the first ISCU in-person event since the pandemic. At this event different immigrant support services in the local Champaign-Urbana community collaborated, providing amenities such as language services, health services and childcare support. I supported this event by aiding its set-up and close, organising clothing donations and interviewing the Executive Director, Ben Mueller about the success of the event for a blog article. Show less
