Natasha and I closely worked together to build communication strategy for Mumbai Smiles. Her knowledge about the needs of the community members and her ways of presenting them to the donors always impressed me. She articulated the needs of the beneficiaries with a lot of empathy, honesty, and backed her claims by data.

My current role centres on increasing revenue gained from fundraising, which I do in a number of ways. In addition to nurturing relationships with prospective and existing supporters, I grow established funding streams on the theatre’s individual giving schemes by formulating acquisition and retention strategies. I also compile grant applications to trusts and foundations to support delivery of the Theatre’s creative learning projects. I am particularly pleased to have achieved over two thirds of the annual target within the first half of the financial year, and my design and facilitation of supporter events secured donor retention and generous gifts from donors. Finally, I have also been able to achieve a supporter retention rate of 87% by mapping the end-to-end supporter experience journey, and designing new processes to onboard and maintain relations with supporters through the stewardship and engagement plan.

The focus of this role was to generate financial support for the Foundation. In practical terms, this included execution of the Foundation’s Trusts & Foundations-fundraising strategy, and defining fundraising targets to meet annual project budgets. Accountability lay with me to create and manage a pipeline of 70 trusts and foundations, some of which represented a seven-figure income and a six-figure gifting size, and in a similar vein I identified scope for building partnerships. I drafted approximately 40 applications in a year to grant-making bodies, and compiled grant reports that evaluated charitable impact and led to further multi-thousand-pound funding. Separately, I created a stewarding plan and led stewarding activity, and through steering all aspects of organisational project delivery (including applying knowledge of project management techniques to design internal methodologies), I was able to realise a multi-thousand-pound target.

In this capacity, I increased sales and revenue by managing all aspects of the reservations department. This involved, for example, facilitating large group reservations for corporate clients and individuals, as well as managing guest relations and ensuring the provision of excellent customer service. The role also included building partnerships and successful collaborations with corporate clients and national and international travel agencies. I was particularly pleased to have secured a multi-thousand-pound contract for the business by converting a general enquiry into a block-booking reservation for an organisation providing student accommodation.

I was delighted to be able to play a key role in furthering the work of the Foundation, which I did in a range of ways. In addition to determining organisational strategies, proposals and projects, I invested significant effort in building relations with more than 3000 donors, individual supporters, corporate clients and like-minded institutions, such as national government organisations and international global organisations.I directed and steered growth of the “Responsive Action Programme” to support donors and collaborators in both India and Spain to understand the Foundation’s work at grass-roots level, and also managed the volunteer and internship programme. This involved introducing skills-based volunteering that realised cost savings through securing ~50 volunteers in India and Spain. The role also included facilitating organisational communications by liaising with the Communications and Marketing department, translating documentation to and from Spanish. Externally, I presented the aims and activity of the Foundation in Spanish radio interviews, and represented the Foundation in a range of ways. This included, for example, attending national and international conferences and fundraising platforms, such as the Federation of Catalonian NGOs to mark the 2013 International Day of Eradication of Poverty. I also served as the primary point of contact with national bodies such as the Spanish Consulate in Mumbai, Spanish Economic and Commercial Office and the National Spanish Tourism Office in Mumbai. Finally, I was able to increase organisational visibility and highlight the charity’s impact as part of its 10th anniversary, by leading a team of over 35 staff and volunteers to facilitate several events in partnership with our stakeholders, local government bodies and beneficiaries, and overseeing the creation of a short movie (“Smileywood”) as part of these events.
