Metropolitan Water District of Southern California - Water Quality Lab • Compiled and analyzed thousands of water quality data from various sources, including a LIMS system, a SCADA system, and Access databases, to maintain quality assurance in water treatment. • Developed over 20 programs using VBA, Excel, and Access to assist senior engineers by automating data retrieval, calculations, and visualization. • Collaborated with senior engineers to collect and analyze both raw and treated water samples for chemical residuals and perform bench-, pilot-, and demonstration-scale experiments involving ozone and chloramine disinfection, coagulant dosage modifications, and particle count analysis. • Assisted senior engineers in creating quarterly and annual reports and presentations by compiling, analyzing, and visualizing water quality data. • Composed a statistical summary of thousands of raw historical water quality data from a time period of 17 years to assist in the creation of a policy document. • Accounted and analyzed monthly chemical usage and costs throughout the fiscal year to correlate economics and water treatment performance. • Visualized structures and processes in order to develop and improve electronic drawings and supplement presentations using models and animations. Synthesis of Gecko-Inspired Dry Adhesives • Assisted in research to reproduce the adhesive power found on the underside of the toes of geckos by fabricating hair-like structures using polymers. • Synthesized an average of eight silicon wafer templates biweekly through microsphere lithography for use in the synthesis of dry adhesive polymeric molds. • Analyzed samples by qualitative and quantitative means through a visual analysis on a scanning electron microscope and frictional force testing. • Developed instrumentation programs involving over a hundred nonlinearly mapped modules in LabVIEW for both frictional force testing and microsphere deposition. • Trained and educated incoming research assistants in further development and optimization of quantification methods by means of instrument hardware and software.
