It is with great pleasure that I write this recommendation on behalf of Natalie Butto. Natalie is a passionate advocate of experiential and community-based learning pedagogy. She recognizes the value of community-based transformational learning to enhance student civic engagement and academic success. She strategically incorporates practical activities into her syllabi. Student learning outcomes are augmented through academic service-learning projects as her students work in partnership with service organizations to identify and address real community issues. Her students deepen their knowledge of course content, enhance critical thinking, analyze options to make informed decisions, take responsibility for their own actions, and work collaboratively while learning to understand and act compassionately toward others. Natalie encourages students to engage in projects representing a wide diversity of community issues and collaboration with local and state representatives. Natalie is recognized as an exemplary leader and mentor. She served as the chair of the college-wide Community Engagement committee and Lead Academic Service-learning Faculty Coordinator managing the Nonprofit Board Match event, offers faculty professional development, and develops community engagement opportunities for faculty, staff, and students. In recognition of her efforts Natalie was selected as a Florida Campus Compact STEM Service-Learning Fellow, awarded a Google grant to provide STEM programming for minority girls and has received the kynamatrix Research Network "Innovation Through Collaboration" grant. Natalie is a role model for her students and colleagues. She continues to strive for ideal academic opportunities for the development of students as educated and engaged citizens. She is a passionate leader inspiring her students, fellow faculty, college administration, and her community.

I’ve had the immense pleasure of knowing Natalie both as a student in the BAS program and as a colleague during our time at Broward College together. Having the experience as a student and colleague gives me unique insight into how Natalie prepares and plans for her courses and executes in the classroom. From a student perspective, I was able to take multiple classes with Natalie, including the capstone course within the Supervision and Management program. Throughout each of her courses her style of teaching stands out the most. Natalie brings a mix of teaching methods that are far superior from the rest. I remember excellent experiential learning exercises we would do with the Tigertail team, the in-depth group discussions which would force you to think deeper about yourself on an emotional and professional level and specifically the capstone project where we were able to work directly with a local non-profit on putting together business and marketing plans. The real-world experience was instrumental in preparing myself, and the class for future positions. Her style is also one that encourages student input and feedback, her courses make you want to attend every class because the content was also so deeply interesting. Her supportive nature with students was second to none, always willing to go above and beyond to ensure the success of her students. From a colleague perspective, I worked with the Broward College marketing department and worked very closely with her on a number of projects including out of the box marketing ideas, her deep connection to community involvement and her ongoing support for me in my professional career. I spent over 6 years at Broward College, worked with numerous professors as both a colleague and student and can’t begin to express the profound thanks to her for constantly encouraging me and sometimes even forcing me out of my comfort zone in class. Natalie is a leader. A thought provoker. A motivator. An inspiration. An innovator. She’s a professor and colleague that I am so thankful to have crossed paths with during my time at Broward College. Everyone that has taken her class is better off for it, myself included. Since my time there, I constantly think about the projects, words of advice and inspiration that I learned as I continue to progress in my career and strategically work towards my end goals. Out of all of my interactions at Broward College, Natalie Butto continuously stands out above the rest.
