In my current role as a Community Health Worker - AmeriCorps Apprentice, I am gaining hands-on experience in the public health workforce. I have been fortunate enough to have been placed in the division of Community & Behavioral Health because of my background. My focus is on substance use and overdose prevention within the City and County of Denver. I have had the opportunity to service residents of Denver by providing overdose prevention supplies such as Naloxone (Narcan) and Fentanyl testing strips at no charge. As I move forward in my apprenticeship, I learn more and more everyday of what the need is in Denver due to the opioid crisis. My experience as an apprentice has shown me this is not easy work, but it is important work. Show less
