At AECOM, I was placed in the business development team. Here I helped to create PowerPoint presentations, gathered information and researched upcoming procurements. I attended a start-up meeting where I took on an administrative role. During my time in the team we created an advertising video for the Japanese embassy and I was a member of the green team- an initiative created to encourage offices to be more eco-friendly. I was often the first person our clients met when they entered the office so it was vital that I made a good first impression. My main responsibilities were opening post, running other errands and answering the phone. I always made myself as useful and as helpful as possible so to keep the office running smoothly, this was especially the case as the office was going through a restructure. I was given tasks that I had very little experience with (such as identifying different court documents and putting together bundles for counsel) requiring me to learn quickly on the job. I also familiarised myself with the software “Partner”; this I mainly self-taught. I had the responsibility of training my replacement. This was a great opportunity to develop my leadership skills and it was vital that I could explain things in a way that made sense to them. I delegated my roles slowly so they could grasp things in their own time and made sure they knew they could always come to me for help. Show less
