'Lets Talk. Period.' EDUCATION AND WELL-BEING COORDINATOR
-
Oct 2018 - Apr 2020
Tackling period poverty in EnglandEvery day 800 million women around the world have their period, and on average a biological female menstruates for a total of 8 years. But menstruation and periods are shrouded in secrecy and shame. The culture of stigma and taboo is having a devastating impact on the lives of girls in the UK. Period stigma, combined with the high cost of period products and a lack of education has led to what is being described as a toxic trio of ‘period poverty’.Let’s Talk Period was a project led by Brook in partnership with girls’ rights charity Plan International UK.This was a pilot scheme, which provided free period products, education and advice to people aged 12-25 years old across the UK who are vulnerable and disadvantaged. We primarily worked with young people living in areas of high deprivation.

Shared Reading groups help people to make fewer visits to the GP, improve mood and relaxation and can assist in better understanding of themselves and those around them.Since 2017, The Reader has been building a volunteer-led movement across the North West. Volunteers were recruited to become part of region-wide network that would receive full training and ongoing support.
