    • Diabetic Eye Screener
      • Jun 2012 - May 2015

I was part of a small team that provided a high quality screening service as part of the Diabetic Retinopathy Screening programme for the whole of Oxfordshire to ensure the early detection of sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy and the reduction of blindness. I was required to work without direct supervision in a General Practice and a hospital clinic setting; often working with no guidance from peers or senior team members. At all times it was expected that I maintain a high standard of patient care, safety, education and time management. I was involved in all aspects of the screening service from testing visual acuity; administering drops and capturing images and scans ensuring that the images meet the National standards. I have a good understanding of Retinopathy as I had to triage images at screening and participated in the Test and Training online testing for graders. A quantity of my time was spent in the office, where my duties were to assist the Failsafe Officer ensuring that no one 'slipped through the net' at any point in the screening pathway. Daily duties also included managing and updating the treatment to screening timeline spread sheet, patient databases, assisting with laser log audits, making clinic appointments, speaking to patients on the telephone about the service and all other general administrative duties.
