Natalie has done an excellent job when volunteering for the Burslem Jubilee Project that supports asylum seekers and refugees in Stoke-on-Trent. She gave up a day of her university holiday to assist newly arrived migrants in learning English. I was particularly impressed by her ability to work in an unfamiliar busy environment. I got to know Natalie as a friendly individual who got along well with people from diverse backgrounds. She demonstrated sympathy and exceptional communication skills necessary to interact with vulnerable adults. Her patience and creativity allowed her to work efficiently with learners who have very little or no knowledge of English. Natalie not only made a positive contribution to the charity’s work but also created a positive and inspiring learning experience for people who often found themselves in hostile environments. Working alongside her was a great pleasure.

During university vacations (via recruitment agency Meridian Business Solutions), I worked part time at Royal Stoke University Hospital, where I performed food service and cleaning tasks. This job required a professional and positive attitude at all times, as well as a friendly and respectful approach towards both patients and staff. Working in an often pressured environment where a strictly timed schedule must be followed has benefited me immensely, in that I have learned to pace myself to adapt to the volume of work required. I believe that this, as well as the ability to remain patient and personable, is a skill which could be transferred to any working environment.
