Spring Intern

Jan 2020 - Jan 2021
Interning for GALEO has allowed me to work towards increasing civic engagement and spreading pertinent information within the Latinx community in Georgia. Throughout this opportunity, I have strengthened my marketing skills, networked with several other organizations that advance immigrants rights, worked on policy issues directly from the Georgia State Capitol, and improved my Spanish skills. Over the summer I began working full time at California Pizza Kitchen. Throughout my time I transitioned from takeout to serving but I was always available to help out in any other area (hosting, bussing, etc.) Working in customer service also allowed me to practice my communication and listening skills; it was also a great exercise in patience at times. This job helped me improve my interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Over the summer I began working full time at California Pizza Kitchen. Working in the After School Program at Bullard was a very rewarding time. Walking in after school every day and seeing all of the welcoming smiles was heartwarming and having some time to disconnect from the world outside was a great stress relief. This job taught me how to handle more serious responsibilities, such as caring for several children at a time and ensuring their safety. Although most of the work consisted of supervising the kids and grabbing the occasional ice pack, I was also able to help them with their homework, read to them, and be there for them if they needed someone to talk to.
