Head of Business Excellence & Commercial Support [Associate Director]
-
Aug 2013 - Sep 2017
My role as Head of Business Excellence had rounded up all previous academic qualifications and experience and had come together to gear me up for the challenges ahead. Project management qualifications were well utilized here and for the first time put to practice, by conducting my first office move/relocation. (We moved offices from three locations in Cape Town into one bigger premises) Conducting the process from scratch by reviewing new lease agreements for the offices, to project managing the actual renovations at the new premises. Ensuring the physical move was planned and coordinated well and ensuring business continuity in the face of unforeseen challenges were well achieved. This Project grew life skills by learning through direct experience and learning to handle problems and obstacles as well as expanded leaps and bounds on valuable decision making skills. Huge channels of open communication with internal Business unit heads, IT and external suppliers were well established to bring the project to a successful close.Legal and Procurement compliance also fall within my forte ensuring that the business is well secured by outsourcing valuable and reputable suppliers across the totality of business needs (Insurance, facilities, specialized suppliers, logistics, Landlords) Implementing substantial cost savings for the company by managing the suppliers well and adding BEE value through the procurement element of BBBEE. Perusing Legal contracts from clients ensuring compliance with company local and Global policies and Legal constraints. My most recent venture of ISO compliance training has fuelled my desire for overall business quality and information security standards. Assisting the business to fully implement and engulf ISO quality-9001 and information security -27001 within the business and identify reasonable risk appetite and treatments.

Previous UK experience within Ipsos offices and post migration expertise had laid the foundation for me to guide the South African office with their financial and migration issues. South Africa had migrated onto the Global systems of Ipsos 2 years after the UK’s implementation and in 2012 also underwent a merge of Legal entities. This role varied to the UK as it had extended beyond ensuring data integrity, after systems migrations and included Global reporting and management of a debtor’s team of three. At this point a complete understanding of the business implications and system collaboration among business units had been already established and was carried out much for efficiently and effectively. Reporting to our Global offices at month end had ensured strict timelines were met.Evaluation and analysis of the financial status’s on projects were conducted determining profitability and loss for each business unit, based on set up, maintenance of a project’s commencement and completion dates and project costings. (Actual costs vs Forecasted). Identifying a gap for leadership within the Debtors department allowed me to take the initiative of mentoring and transferring knowledge to the debtor’s team to ensuring the debtors aging days were reduced as well as driving timeous issuing of client and intercompany invoicing. At the point of August 2013 I had been approached internally for a move into the Business Excellence Department within the organization.

Assistant Accountant

Sep 2008 - Jul 2011
My role at Ipsos Mori was definitely a milestone in growth within my career. Sharp attention to detail and analytical skills were core competencies developed to complete my responsibilities. During my role here we underwent a Legal entity migration as well as business and financial systems migration which had a huge effect on the financial workings of the organization. Post migration issues had steered my development in problem solving skills and thinking on my feet by applying my financial knowledge to the new software we had implemented. Everyday had become a new challenge of problems to solve within the finance arena affecting invoicing, project co-ordination and maintenance thereof to ensure consistency in our financial data and reporting to our Group. My role here had taught me to be resilient and consistent to challenges. Open communication among the Directors within the enterprise were used as a tool to ensure each business unit’s project related post migration issues were resolved effectively and accurately. A key achievement in this role would be my election as a “Champion” (A main point of contact for the business on the new software we had adopted to run our projects for our clientele as well as our finances) Being elected as ‘Champion had allowed me to apply my skills and experience on a practical level to assist users across the organization and assist them in turn to deliver client and financial statistics accurately.

Assistant Management Accountant

Oct 2007 - Jul 2008
On relocating to London, one of my first roles was based on a fixed term contract (Maternity cover) at a leading Magazine Distribution company based in Southwark, London. I had moved into the finance arena, making use of the Commercial stature of my degree and building on my academic major of Accounting and Business Management for the first time in my career. My legal role and experience had taken a back seat due to the bases of English Law differing from our South African legal origins based on Roman Dutch Law. This role had pushed my learning abilities in a fast paced, trendy environment, building strong commercial etiquette and attention to detail. As a management role, I managed a team of two overlooking the Third Party accounting, Invoicing and Reporting to clients. It allowed me to work confidently within a group and contribute ideas assertively rather than aggressively.

Legal Conveyancing
-
Oct 2003 - May 2007
During the engagement of full time studies in my Bachelor degree I had already started working at Gishen-Gilchrist Inc. - Specialist’s in property Law and Conveyancing. Great organisation, time management and overall self - management was very quickly adopted in this role due to the strict deadlines and client centric nature of my role in ensuring property and mortgage bond transfers we completed timeously and professionally. An independent approach was taken to build a strong client service rapport by providing detailed feedback on progress and reassurance on delivery. One of my greatest extrinsic achievements in this role would be bringing the firm to a strong position, rated 22 out of a panel of 260 other legal firms on one of the Big Four financial institutes across Gauteng. The key drive behind this massive improvement was based specifically on quick turnaround times on my key mortgage bond registration accounts. Other responsibilities included assisting in winding up of Late Estates. Drafting and completing legal contracts. Building relationships of trust, respect and productive interaction both among client’s and staff would be the dominant skill acquired in this role.
