      Founded in 1998, Cora Dance was initially a contemporary dance company led by critically acclaimed choreographer, Shannon Hummel (and my former dance teacher and mentor!). Over the past 25 years, Cora has evolved to include a year-round arts center in Red Hook that houses the professional company, Cora Youth Company, and studio classes for youth ages 5-18. After many years of meaningful cross-cultural rural-urban partnerships between both young and professional dancers in Brooklyn and Virginia, Cora established another arts center in Clifton Forge, VA in 2021 to replicate the model of Cora Dance Brooklyn. All of Cora’s classes in both Brooklyn and Clifton Forge are pay-what-you-can, ensuring equal access to the arts for all young artists in these communities. Show less
