My research has focused on experimental and analytical study of solid-liquid-supercritical CO2 interactions and wettability evaluation for CO2 storage. In reservoir engineering, the wettability has been recognized as an important factor determining the remaining oil saturation, capillary-pressure and relative-permeability functions. However, the wettability of the reservoir rock is not a property easily defined. It is basically determined by complex interfacial interactions between the rock that is composed of a wide variety of minerals, and the reservoir fluids that occupy the highly irregular pore space. The research successfully concluded with:• Delivering a new methodology to determine contact angle and surface tension in saturated and unsaturated media,• Modified and improved the experimental setup for surface and interfacial tension determinations with supercritical CO2,• Introducing a new analytical method to estimate surface energy, contact angle and interfacial tension for solid-liquid systems,• Implemented micro-CT scanning and microscopic examination of solid surfaces for wettability determinations, • Developed and successfully evaluated procedures to perform surface characterization and small-scale fluid visualization including supercritical CO2• Developed analytical model to predict IFT with supercritical CO2 systems Show less
