Veterinary Nurse
-
Oct 2007 - Feb 2010
I worked as a large animal technician and surgical nurse. As a large animal technician I assisted in large animal procedures mostly in the farming district of Waikato including administering medications, calving, lameness, teat sealing, dehorning, deer velveting, and vaccinations. When not in the field I was head surgical nurse. I have skills in calculating drug and medicine dose rates, administering pre-medications and medicine oral, topical, subcutaneous and intravenous (mostly cephallic vein). I have a good knowledge of cat and dog dentistry and performing descaling and polish and am also confident in suturing wounds including scrub of contaminated areas. I have excellent experience in all aftercare for the critically injured, post surgery and sick animals administering medications and general housekeeping (food, water, etc). I am also very confident in administering IV lines and setting up drip rates for a range of species. Show less
