As a new developer, I couldn't have asked for a better mentor than Syed. When I joined Ackerman, he was a one-man team. Under his tutorship, I was able to learn best practices, truly hone my skillset and take the reins myself after 2 years. Syed is a pleasure to work with, a great communicator, constantly learning and inspiring those around him to grow. He also excels under high pressure. He is as cool as a cucumber when it matters most. There are many wise lessons he taught me that still inspire me to excel in what I undertake.

What can I say other than "Syed is the man!" He gets the job done, doesn't whine about it, and plays nice with other developers. To say Syed is smart is an understatement. The guy dreams in code and eats SDKs for breakfast. If someone were to ask me if I'd recommend Syed, I wouldn't need to hear anything more. My answer would always be yes. He adds a valuable component to any development environment. If I had the chance to work with Syed again, I wouldn't hesitate. He made the work environment more fun and was great to hang around with outside of work.

This is my second time around in this company. I was hired primarily in a customer facing lead solutions architect role. During this time, I have been working with a few or our top clients, leading development and deployment of various applications and web projects, successfully maintaining the on-going relationship with the clients and directly affecting the company’s bottom line. Accomplishments: • Led the efforts to develop in-house expertise for custom Wordpress development based on client’s requirements. • Cultivated successful technical relationship with client’s IT department. • Architected, built and deployed more than 7 highly custom Wordpress web sites with complicated integrations with the client’s existing systems including user accounts management, offers and rewards systems, lodging management system (LMS) etc. • Built and added interactive property maps with way-finding capabilities to the websites. • Developed custom interface for large on-premise touch screens with same Wordpress acting as Content Management system for both website and the touch screens. Added custom JSON API in Wordpress to provide data to the touch screens front-end layer built in React. Show less

FanPrint is a Print-on-Demand e-commerce platform selling custom designed apparel officially licensed by many popular sports franchises of the United States. During my short time here, I was able to overhaul company's entire technology stack resulting in significant revenue growth. Migrated from a Shopify hosted e-commerce site to an in-house self-hosted platform built on Ruby on Rails, React components, PostgreSQL, Memcached, all deployed on AWS infrastructure. While being a simple click-to-buy e-commerce site for end-users, it has a very complex backend / admin interface which allows designers to create, upload and sell their own designs and earn commission on them. It integrates with multiple fulfilling partners for various products via their APIs and webhooks. It includes sophisticated analytics and tracking mechanism to track referrals and calculate commissions for designers and marketers. Show less

As a CTO, I was responsible for overseeing the development and deployment of their MVP. Multiple on-shore and off-shore teams were working on the product. The job was completed successfully and we deployed version 1.0 of the MVP in record time, resulting in the acquisition of first few of the very impressive list of clients. Advanced through multiple promotions, culminating in SVP role overseeing company’s digital platforms. Managing development, deployment, maintenance and enhancement of our multi-million dollar flagship product “Videodigm”. It’s a suite of applications that provide on-demand and live video delivery capability for our clients through websites and apps on desktop/laptop, mobile and OTT devices and social media platforms. Accomplishments: • Managed, mentored and trained junior software developers. • Assisted in staff recruitment, performance evaluation and retention. • Led the efforts in moving all of the company’s IT infrastructure to AWS Cloud. Managed all cloud servers until appropriate resource was hired for the job. Some of the products and applications that I designed and led the development efforts on, include: • A Content Management System for “videodigm” platform utilizing Ruby, Rails, Elasticsearch and AngularJS. The front-end of this application is built using Node/Express. • A secure Readonly API using Grape (a ruby API framework) to serve content to desktop, mobile and OTT applications from the Content Management System. Deployed the API on Amazon Beanstalk for auto-scaling. • A Video Manager application that manages encoding and syndication of all videos for this platform. It’s built with latest version of Ruby on Rails, utilizes Sidekiq and Redis for background processing and integrates with Amazon Elastic Transcode service via AWS API to encode videos for various screen sizes and bandwidths. • A Show Manager application to control broadcast of live video that is used in broadcast studios on a daily basis. Its main interface is built using AngularJS with User Management built with Ruby on Rails. This application utilizes PUBNUB’s publish-subscribe service (http://pubnub.com) to communicate with and trigger live video events on client browsers and applications. Show less

Built a large-scale Content Management System utilizing Ruby, Rails 3.2.x, AJAX and MYSQL/MSSQL. This CMS combined with the Flash/Flex front-end is a multi-million dollar product currently deployed for tens of clients. Most of our applications are deployed on Amazon EC2 instances, use Amazon S3 buckets for assets storage and utilize Amazon Cloudfront for content distribution. I have been managing these servers since 2010.
