  I own a social enterprise which aims to improve everyone’s confidence, creativity and self-expression through a series of cathartic writing workshops. As the sole director, I handle the entirety of the volunteer recruitment process; writing job descriptions, screening CV’s, conducting interviews, facilitating training sessions, and creating handbooks, policies and contracts.I developed strategies which led to Wordsmiths operating across London with clients including the NHS, National Probation Service, and Together for Mental Wellbeing.I conduct likert-scale surveys to measure impact and create reports which promote the business to potential clients and funders. As a result, Wordsmiths is now supported by The Princes Trust, and Lloyds Bank Social Entrepreneurs Start-up Programme, in partnership and jointly funded by Big Lottery Fundwww.wordsmithsworkshops.com

  I manage a team of outreach workers as well as overseeing the daily operations. I contribute ideas to the directional decisions of the charity and have implemented multiple new procedures which have been rolled out organisation-wide. I identify areas where the work is not effectively meeting the aims of the charity and then draw on the collective knowledge of the team to find alternative ways of working. I ensure targets are consistently being met by improving staff buy-in to the organisation. I achieve this through focusing on employee wellbeing and making sure every team member feels valued and heard. I have designed a recurring agenda for team meetings which pushes everyone to participate in lively discussions and regularly produces new and collaborative ideas. I am responsible for the recruitment, onboarding and training of new staff. I run supervisions and provide feedback as well as disciplinary action where needed.

By bringing the person's strengths and interests to theforefront of their recovery, I enable them to create a stable foundation forchange.   I supported clients who were rough sleeping or staying in the emergency nightshelter to take practical steps towards finding housing. It was important that Ibuilt a trustful relationship with each individual before exploring their optionswith them. There was no one-size-fits-all solution; I utilised each person’s skills,will power and existing resources alongside my industry knowledge, and astrong relationship with the council and local supported housing providers.

  I provided meals, engagement activities and social support to clients. I considered my main duty to be reducing clients’ anxiety over being in a shelter by making sure they felt it was a relaxed place, where they were safe to start making a change.
