Supporting Deaf/hearing impaired children and young people in Brent borough through teaching them BSL as a new language or developing their BSL further. Teaching families BSL in educational settings or 1:1 in their homes, including Deaf families who have immigrated to the U.K without knowledge of a recognised sign language. I would create a range of resources to support the learning and understanding of children and young adults. I also liased with other professionals who were in a better position to support young DeafBlind babies. I contacted SENSE and set up a meeting in person with the SENSE worker and the families of the DeafBlind babies. so they coudl also receive support from SENSE. I set up an Introduction to BSL course, this was for parents and professionals in schools, hospitals, clinics etc. to learn BSL. I put together lesson plans, PowerPoints and activities. I arranged for Deaf friends to come along to the course so the students could practice their BSL. The students would always give excellent feedback at the end of the course, they particularly liked that I would teach without speaking as this accelerated their learning of BSL in just a short space of time.
