I worked with Nancy Kinnally on two projects involving communications and geospatial data visualization. Nancy envisioned how powerful geographic information systems (GIS) technology and mapping could be used to tell a story that influences decision makers, donors, and others. She was excellent at providing the key questions, brainstorming and reviewing the various mapping options, and providing specific descriptions of the final map products. Nancy was quick to learn about GIS technology, learn the terms of art, and visualize how it can be woven into a story. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Nancy. She is a clear communicator and listener and gives space to be creative while always keeping an eye on central goal of the piece. Our fruitful collaboration between mapping and communications has resulted in being invited to showcase our work at national conferences and our resulting story map has received international commendations as one of Esri’s favorite community-produced story maps of the year.

Nancy Kinnally is a strategic thinking and organized professional. These skills helped Nancy tackle the tough job of implementing impressive communication tools critical to the success of a new college of medicine. Nancy not only worked to develop a positive public perception for the college of medicine, but developed relationships with those entities that worked closely with her institution to ensure they were recognized for their involvement.
