  Development of design guidance for structural stainless steel and high strength steel: Involved in many research and development projects which have studied the structural performance of steel members and connections, both at room temperature and in fire. Specific roles have included writing proposals, preparing and administering the contract documents, financial control, carrying out technical work and dissemination of results through publications, design guides, web sites etc. The guidance has been directed at UK, European and American audiences. Development of European Standards: Convenor for the European Working Group responsible for Eurocode 3: Part 1-4, which covers the design of structural stainless steel. Member of the European Working Groups for Eurocode 3: Part 1-2 Structural Fire Design and Eurocode 3: Part 1-12 High strength steel. Management of EU Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) Projects: Responsible for managing more than seven EU multi-partner research, development and dissemination projects relating to structural stainless steel, high strength steel, fire engineering, renovation and energy efficient buildings. Involvement in the EU Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS): Independent expert evaluating construction research proposals for the European Commission’s RFCS for five years.Member of Technical Group TGS8 (Steel products and applications for building, construction and industry) for the RFCS which is a group of European experts who are responsible for monitoring steel research projects related to construction. Involvement in the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE): Supervising Civil Engineer for the ICE Approved Training Scheme at the SCI.
