My team here was building a modular system that aggregates data (reports about covid19 from healthcare organisations, crime rates, road accidents, emergencies all over Almaty, etc.) and visualizes it on a centralized web-resource. I have implemented some web-services here using Haskell (servant, aeson, mtl, rio, persistent, hasql, etc.) and Scala (http4s, doobie, circe, fs2, etc.). I was employed here as a Scala Developer. My team was building Data Pipelines using Akka Streams, Alpakka, gRPC and Apache Flink technologies. I met here a bunch of absolutely new ideas including an Actor System, Event Sourcing, CQRS, etc. I started to use pure FP concepts in my personal projects while working here, and got deeply interested in the ideas from FP world, namely Monoids, Applicatives, Functors, Monads, etc. Finally, I decided to put my efforts towards exploring Haskell, wrote some pet projects using PureScript and Haskell. Main activities of the company were somewhere in-between selling services and selling products/goods available to customers. I took part in a development of some web, utility services around a huge ERP system, that was built by preceding developers' team. Some of my responsibilities were in researching "microservices". I was primarily focusing on building an infrastructure around web-services deployed in a Docker containers. We decided to use Kafka as a middleware to make an interaction of several services possible, robust and relatively fast. A basic orchestration of the services was made using Docker Swarm. I was also developing some of the aforementioned web-services using Java and Kotlin. I did use some of the tools from the Netfilix OSS, Eureka, Spring cloud, Reactive Streams (Project Reactor), Spring Webflux, Service Discovery mechanisms and other stuff that forms a "microservice architecture".
