It is a pleasure writing a recommendation for Nadya. In my role as Student Personnel Coordinator for the Ohio Wesleyan University Libraries, I got to know and work with many students. Few remain in contact after graduation, but it is rewarding to follow the careers of those that do. Nadya worked for the libraries for three years. As her skills grew, so did the opportunities to work in different departments and with a variety of librarian supervisors. She was a reference desk assistant her first year. This was the first year we tried this reference desk model. The newly formed group of students worked together as a team, coordinating their work schedules making sure all shifts were covered. They shared tips and strategies as they were constantly gaining new skills and responsibilities. It was this team work that made this model a success. Nadya continued with her reference desk responsibilities, but with her positive energy, work ethic and enthusiasm, she was soon sought out by other supervisors. She gained additional customer services skills working at the circulation desk in the main library, and was then asked to staff the circulation desk at the science branch library. Having a double major of Zoology and Psychology made this position a perfect fit for both the libraries and Nadya. Nadya returned to campus several times during her PhD journey. She sought out her faculty members for advice, and always stopped by the library to chat with her former friends and supervisors. She shared with us the challenges she faced as well as the successes she accomplished. With her perseverance and determination, I believe she will be successful in any endeavor she pursues.

I volunteered for Nadya’s avian Ph.D. research project, annotating videos using BORIS software. She had a patient and welcoming mentoring approach. Her friendly and positive attitude combined with her clear direction assisted in my understanding of the software. Nadya often took the initiative between meetings to check up on the progress and wellbeing of the volunteer group regularly, in a kind yet respectable manner. She also maintained contact between her supervisor and other levels of management such as team members well. She consistently gave timely updates of research progress and uploading tasks to be done. If I had to delay finishing a video, Nadya was flexible and understanding in re-delegating the workload.
