As a Social Work Assistant I have two main roles. The first is "supported access" When children are apprehended and placed in resource families, my role is to coordinate with the resource families, the school and the parents in order to facilitate visitation. I manage all the scheduling and transportation. I communicate directly with the family's social worker about my role in implementing the case plan. Additionally, I document the interactions observed during the visit and provide feedback to the parents related to addressing concerns presented in their case plan. The second role is "in home support" At times there are concerns within the family that could be addressed without the need of removing children from the family home. I attend the home to offer support in one or all of the following areas: budgeting, housekeeping, positive parenting, mental health, healthy relationships, nutrition, or housing & community resources. For 6 months, I co-facilitated a pre-natal class along side Prairie Mountain Health while CFS Western was hiring a new Expectant Parent Service Social Worker. Show less
