The molecular basis of brain aging in the age-dependent decline of odor-sensing behaviors in the nematode, C. elegans. I was especially interested in how diet can play a role in intervening the defects of aging. I was supervised by Dr. Kentaro Noma.

I was the teaching assistant for the classes Genetics 1 and Anatomy & Physiology 1 which are aimed for undergraduate students. My responsibilities included developing the grading criteria for homework, marking weekly homework assignments as well as meeting students upon request.

Working under Dr. Young-Jai You, I investigated the molecular pathways underlying appetite and sleep by using C. elegans as a model system due to its simplicity and tractability. I simultaneously worked on 2 projects which involved:1) A neuropeptide screen using RNA-interference technology, measuring the sleep of animals using a locomotion tracker. 2) A candidate-based approach to study molecular players involved in starvation, by measuring the survival of animals upon starvation treatment. I developed transgenic animals to express candidate genes in a specific manner.
