👨🏽🍼James Ferne
Myles is one of those rare finds, equally talented at technical problems as he was with people. He was instrumental in growing the Cogent team over the past few years and always jumped at the opportunity to help out where he could.

Raisebook is a online platform that gives sophisticated investors access to early stage ASX and private investments. As the Chief Technology officer, I have been responsible for customer validation and product development, UX design and software architecture; as well as being involved in product strategy. Raisebook's client facing website is built in Ruby on Rails and React. Behind the scenes we employ a set of event-driven microservices written in a mix of Ruby, Node.js and Elixir, bound together by AWS SQS, GraphQL and Go-based AWS lambdas. The site runs in Docker containers running on AWS ECS. Raisebook adheres to the Twelve-factor app methodology: https://12factor.net/

Digital Mapping Solutions is an Geographic Information System that is deployed via the browser. They provide GIS services to a large number of local governments around Australia. I designed and built the new HTML5 based front-end for IntraMaps 8 using Backbone.js. I also helped design the API which was the cornerstone of their MapControl system, which embedded GIS information on council website. As part of my contract at Redbubble, I was a full-stack developer working in the UX team using both Ruby on Rails and JavaScript. As part of the UX team, I helped rearchitect the the frontend application to improve engagement rates. Redbubble is test driven - both in their software, and customer validation. My team brought in "design war rooms" where we would aggressively iterate on UX designs, bringing in customers for research, iterating on feedback and releasing changes, sometimes in the same day. We also used A/B testing, and analytics to assess the effectiveness of our UX changes.

The Eliminate Dengue project was a publishing platform supporting scientists and residents of areas with a high incidence of dengue virus. The platform relied heavily on video, and audio, so we had to work closely with the video team to deliver video to users in low-bandwidth, high-latency areas. The project was agile, system was built in Ruby on Rails and Angular.js.
