I worked with Murtaza at an international non-profit, Hunger Free World. Murtaza managed programmes, arranged and / or written various reports ranging from quarterly reports explaining Bangladesh office’s overall quarterly activities, program reports covering progress for one or more years, and more event-specific reports. Such works show Murtaza’s high communication skills to interact with Bangladesh local staff in order to convey purpose of such reports, absorb local information, organize and express information in English for internal reports. Murtaza also took responsibilities in conducting surveys and program evaluation where he added high value. Murtaza excels at facilitating group discussions with rural communities in an equal atmosphere where even women, usually afraid of speaking out in public, express their true feelings. Where many city-based elite NGO workers fail to truly blend in to the local community by unconsciously having a patronizing attitude, Murtaza always wins hearts of the locals, both elderly and young, men and female, by showing natural respect and camaraderie. Such mentality is a huge asset in any role requiring interaction with local communities. As a researcher, Murtaza also shows amazing talent at finding out facts from individuals who are not necessarily used to applying logical or chronological explanation. His observation and understanding of community allows him to frame questions in a context that is easy to follow for each local community, finding out necessary information little by little. Last but not least, Murtaza’s wonderful personality with sincerity, strong sense of responsibility, objectivity and fair judgment, humility and equal manner in treating all people around him, passion for social justice, and deep kindness makes it a great pleasure to work with him. Murtaza will be the perfect person for any role that requires the above mentioned skills.

I came to know Murtaza Ahmed as a sincere development practitioner as a colleague of a campaign partner organization in Bangladesh Right to Food Alliance. His conceptual clarity on livelihood, food security issue and youth empowerment are solid and his practical experience in these areas are also noteworthy. He is passionate and sincere in his engagement on social causes and justice issues. I wish him a successful career growth ahead.
