Apr 2017 - Jun 2017
Placed as an intern in Centre of Sub Tropical Fruits ,Ladwa ( Kurukshetra), for 3 month, it is an Indo - Israel Horticultural Project initiated under National Horticultural Mission worth $1.6 million with aim to initiate production of hybrid fruit varieties of Indian and Israeli varieties of Peach, Pear, Plum, Mango, Guava and Lemon. Learnt to incorporate Indian Varieties' Roots and Israeli Varieties' Scion to grow new and improved fruit plants. Visited medium and large-scale farmers in 25 kilometres radius of the centre to make aware them about latest nutrient and water saving technology. I came up with the idea to organise a training for farmers on nutrient and water management technologies in horticultural crops. Arranged the finances and catering with other interns to deliver a successful presentation to farmers. Also proposed a business plan to a drip irrigation supplying companying to attend the presentation, in order to promote their product in return for investing in catering and banners for the training. Got best intern award from the Director of Horticulture who was the chief guest for the training. Learnings: How to grow fruits nurseries, production of fruit cultivars under Green House, maintenance of Greenhouses, developing hybrid cultivars from various roots and scions. and work as a team to help farmers to save resource in fruit production. Rural Agriculture Work Experience
-
Jan 2017 - Mar 2017
Started as a leader of 7 interns in village Dhania to meet farmers, listen and understand their problems and how they cultivate land and try to differentiate how it is different from the theory taught in college. The aim was to learn from the farmers and try to transfer technology from institution to ground level, so that farmer can avail the benefits of new technology and increase his income. Did collective research on "Techno-Economic" condition of farmers, to understand what agricultural practices they adopt, how much they cost and finally analyse their annual income and savings based on at least 6 individual farmer interviews. Based on the interviews by all the group members common issues which came forward are lacking knowledge of Organic Farming, Soil Health Card and Water Management in field crops. Hence, I came up with an idea to conduct basic training on them so that the farmers can save their resources and money. A presentation was prepared to deliver and with that, a video was added in order to demonstrate the ways and results in interactive ways. We invited Professors from the University, directors of Agriculture and Fisheries and Agriculture officer from the local bank who described various government initiatives to help and strengthen farmers through various loans and subsidies. Took initiative to visit village school and conduct a training for students on future career prospects and their responsibility towards the environment. Got huge appreciation from the principal who invited us as the chief guest for the Republic Day Function. Led from the front and presented the final presentation to all the Head of Departments of Univesity and concerned lecturers, included what we learnt from the village experience, major differences in theoretical and practical farming conditions in the village and what can be done to improve the conditions of Indian farmers. A lifelong experience learnt culture and tradition of villages and interacted with farmers. Show less
