Zameen.com is a part of Emerging Market Property Group which covers under its umbrella leading portals in Bangladesh (bproperty.com) & UAE (bayut.com) which makes working at Zameen truly an international experience. My role swings between a Product Manager to Project Manager & at times being a solutions engineer on the fly. I initially started my journey by designing & managing back office systems (with doing a bit of R&D). Now a days I lead the development of the consumer platform. At Zameen I have gained an invaluable experience of interacting with people from 3 different socio-cultural backgrounds, traveling to these countries, interacting with staffers at Facebook & Google for collaborations to improve our product, running probably region’s largest exercise of data collection, talking to sales/marketing teams and managing their expectations/requirements, etcThe challenges we face everyday at Zameen is how to design systems which can work in 3 different economic environments yet keeping one source code, size of the portals demand speed & scalability, flexibility to develop newer products at brisk speeds & executing multiple things in parallel.Key managerial contributions: Growing the team by 2x, defining & getting team structures in place, defining communication channels & protocols between client departments & engineering. My team has delivered the following major deliverables along with managing numerous small deployments in a span of 9 months:Tricorder ApplicationOperations Reporting System (Bproperty)Zameen Secure DeploymentLaunch of bayut.com portalLaunch of bproperty.com portalBayut SEO RevampSpeed Improvements & Akamai DeploymentLaunch of Sales Products (Bayut)I work with the craziest engineering team around in the country. Oh yes, we are crazy as we break a lot of things every other day because we "DO" a lot of things. You think you have the Z-Factor? Ping me anytime Show less

A role with a focus on a project management/engineering management along with handling external engagements. The engineering management part basically involved designing the product architecture. I reported to Dr. Fareed Zaffar, faculty patron at TPI. Following are projects I have been involved in: • HR Information System-District Education Department: In collaboration with Adam Smith and Punjab Govt Education Dept I lead the the development of a system which digitizes the records for teachers, posts and schools from all over the province, re-engineers the business processes of HR activities by digitization resulting in increased transparency. We developed a portal for teacher transfers, promotions and terminations. System is capable of suggesting recommendations when posting or transferring a teacher. • Delay Studies in Judicial Proceedings: As an augmentation to our case flow management system we performed a detailed study of factors, which causes delays in judicial proceedings. First judicial processes were mapped to understand each and every detail involved in proceedings of a case. Afterwards we designed a publicly available web tool over a comprehensive data set of around 1600 digitized case files. This tool was used to write report on delay studies, which will be made public very soon. • Statistan: In collaboration CERP Pakistan and Harvard BCURE Program we developed an open-access web tool that would allow users to visualize research data in structured info graphics, which will help policy makers use research evidence in decisions. We designed a system in which when raw data is fed the tool itself can determine the best way to visualize it. This is meant to be one stop shop for public datasets.• SAHE-IDEAS, Learn While You Teach: SAHE designed specific video content for school teachers is encrypted and installed in an Android App which is viewed by teachers through Android tablets in their trainings with help of IDEAS field team. I have been involved in the design and development work of following projects: • Evidence Based Policing: According to First Information Reports (FIR), crimes occur at particular locations in Pakistan. Android phones are used to geo-tag each crime incident. FIR is registered from a certain crime location and the police officer visits the crime scene. He fills out a simple set of questions on his smart phone and takes a picture of the location where the incident occurred. I worked towards generating crime clusters using these geo tags on which Police authorities can take action by sanctioning a patrol vehicle or placing a police picket. I also developed an analytical dashboard shows over all performance of police stations and police divisions in regard to crime against person and crime against property. • Case Flow Management System: This system digitizes the process a case file follows in District Courts. I have been actively involved in all of the development process. The system caters to Case registration, assigning of hearing date, generation of cause list and performance dashboard for judges. The system is powerful enough to red flag cases which are lagging behind in process. Show less

I worked in Systems and Security Group at CS Department LUMS under Dr. Fareed Zaffar. Projects in which I have been involved are:i. Sentiment Analysis on Political Tweets: Performed sentiment analysis on political tweets using sentiment analysis tools like SentiStrength, Sentiment140, etc. As twitter represents a sample of public opinion so this provides a rapid performance analysis tools for Governments and Political parties. ii. Integrity File System: In collaboration with Stanford Research Institute (Sr. Scientist Ashish Gehani) I engineered a user space file system aimed for scientific data processing where large sized files are churned. Two unique features of this file system are swift hashing and the ability to add or remove bytes in the middle of a file. To achieve these goals, IFS does not save a file as contiguous bytes like most file systems but saves the file in small chunks. The information related to these chunks i.e. file meta data is stored in B+ merkle Hash Tree.iii. Detecting and Measuring Collusion networks on Facebook: Based on a small security vulnerability in Facebook Application Framework (identified in our study) we found that collusion networks are running on Facebook on massive scale. A collusion network is basically a fake network of people liking each others posts and pages in paid or unpaid way but in automated fashion based on huge collections of auth tokens of variety of users. In our study we found that these networks are generating a lot of revenue by providing fake likes and nearly 30 million Facebook users are infected by activities of these networks indirectly. This study was done in collaboration with Dr. Uzair Shafique in University of Iowa and it was later funded by Facebook itself (although by that time I had left my position at LUMS). Show less
