My interest in teaching has been fostered by twenty two years of undergraduate as well as postgraduate tutoring, teaching and mentoring at Jahangirnagar University.I did my BA (Honours) and MA in Drama and Dramatics from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. Moreover, I did my second postgraduate degree in Media Production from the University of Sunderland, UK. Since then, my learning experience has enhanced through my job experience of a media crew in a 16mm film production in Bangladesh. As a Chief Assistant Director, my responsibility was to arrange, rehearse, coordinate and conduct production activities during pre-production, production and post-production phases. Further evidence of my media skills and industry experience is evident from the five episodes of co-produced TV series ‘Bosobash’. Bosobash aired on the satellite based TV channel, ‘Channel I’ in 2003 in Bangladesh. In 2009 and 2010 my work experience as a Media Consultant in the English in Action programme of the Open University of the United Kingdom was an international recognition of my media expertise.I completed my PhD in Screen Studies from the University of Manchester in February 2012. My teaching experience comprehended a wide range of undergraduate courses, including Media Production Studies, Advertising and Film Studies. I have also tutored courses at Master’s level such as Acting for Radio/Television/Film, and Directing for Radio/TV/ Film. Apart from media related courses, I have also taught several other courses including Aesthetics, Introduction to World Theatre, Set Design and Construction, Modern Dramatics and Theatre Production courses. I have taught several post graduate courses such as Ethnic Theatre, Research Methodology for doctoral students. It is important to mention that I had the total responsibility for determining course objectives, planning, assessment criteria etc. Show less

Media and Communication School of Arts and Digital Industries University of East London Dockland Campus London E16 2RD m.s.ahsan@uel.ac.uk Research Topic: Adding Value to Audience Satisfaction for Mobile TV in Bangladesh: Policy Challenges Research Adviser: Professor Jonathan Hardy This research aims at understanding policy challenges to grow the consumer friendly mobile TV market in Bangladesh. The project focuses in devising policy after (i) identifying the preferences and willingness of the prospective audience in consuming mobile TV, (ii) determining the reasonable value of the mobile TV content in a complex scenario where cross-ownership and cross-border revenue generation of the stakeholders might affect their own interest and public interest (iii) understanding the technical skills, knowledge and ability at consumer and service provider’s levels to play, maintain and support the system at ease. This study therefore finally intends to devise the policy outline upon the qualitative interviews with the government authorities, mobile service providers, academics, broadcast/communication executives and representative mini surveys of the mobile users. During my research placement at the MIoIR, I attended a week long ‘Science Technology and Innovation Policy’ course. This course gave me the insights about the various aspects of policy mix, policy cycle, policy analysis and their implementations in the regional, national and international levels. Moreover, it gave me the opportunity to interact with the funding experts around the UK. My usual attendance in weekly seminars on policy strategy and project evaluation boosted my ability in seeking funds for research. A Co-authored conference paper was completed with Dr. Khaleel Malik (Research Adviser) during the first six months of my research induction. The paper titled ‘The Role of an Intermediary Agent in Technology Integration within Developing Countries: A Film Industry Perspective’ was later on presented in the ‘World Conference on Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship’ Turkey in May, 2015. In subsequent months, my research was focused to understand and select the suitable broadcast technology for digital television switchover in Bangladesh. In that research project I examined whether a user friendly approach in the TV industry or a technology neutral policy would be more desirable during the digital switchover. Specifically the strengths of the technology neutral policy which fosters a democratic practice where the TV content can be disseminated to its audience through multiplatform applications such as terrestrial, satellite, cable mobile or handheld devices was studied thoughtfully. Apart from the traditional multiplatform channels, the useful means of distributing TV content to create hype over the internet through IPTV and Web TV was also explored in this research. Show less
