      I am responsible for the first and the final encounter with an IPD patient on surgery floors. I am responsible for taking history from an incoming patient and performing his/her detailed physical examination. I monitor the patients daily progress in their charts including their active complaints, changes in physical examination findings vitals, fluid balance and any recent labs and suggest treatment modifications to the team. I am actively involved in their pre- and post-operative care. I am responsible for preparing detailed discharge summaries for patients and for counselling them and helping them as to their discharge process, home health care, wound care, pain management, follow up and home medications. I am responsible for assisting the surgeon in the operation theatre and have gained extensive amount of experience with most common surgeries including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic appendectomy, exploratory laparotomy, hernia repair and pilonidal sinus excision.       I was responsible for coordinating with the floor team daily in various aspects of patient care, including but not limited to the admission and discharge process initial patient history and examination, daily medications, pending and relevant labs, amd patient progress notes. I was also required to fully participate in educational activities like seminars, lectures, and short case based discussions on the floors. I was required to appear in an end of clerkship exam, in which I was expected to perform well. I was required to maintain a logbook which would be signed by the respective attendings. I was required to work in the emergency department as well. I was given the privileges of performing some bedside patient procedures under supervision, including NG intubation, Foley catheter insertion and removal, venous and arterial blood sampling and lumbar puncture.
