Assisted in research titled "Did the 1918–19 Influenza Pandemic Kill the US Life Insurance Industry?" The research found that during the 1918–19 influenza outbreak, there was no significant difference among US life insurers’ profitability. Moreover, there were fewer insurers in distress after the outbreak. It argues that an increase in insurance demand offset higher death claim payouts. Bloomberg has written a piece about it: https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2020-09-29/financial-markets-can-be-a-blight-or-blessing-inpandemics?sref=uN6cur8D Paper: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3697832 Show less
