As an HR Consultant Michael was fantastic. His knowledge of CA laws made opening a lab in CA a lot easier. His professional demeanor and clear guidance was a huge help in navigating the CA payroll laws.

Company closed due to Covid. Most recently, I spearheaded a national HR function, as a member of the executive leadership team, for a private equity-backed $100M renewable energy solar company. This entailed formalizing and operationalizing HR, employment and business functions, and leading a 7-member team to effectively resolve a wide array of HR‐related matters. I also served as key member of CCPA & Covid‐19 business continuity teams and worked closely with Safety. Ultimately the company closed due to the pandemic. Successes include driving pre‐litigation savings of +$1.7M within first 6 months of hire by working collaboratively with Legal Counsel. As well I brought order to chaotic HR functions—improving compliance, morale, engagement, recruitment, and retention while reducing risk. Additionally, I influenced major organizational and HR cultural change by initiating a policy and procedure overhaul and developing new HR SOPs. Show less

Reduction in Force due to an M&A between St. Joseph Health and Providence Health and Services (Covenant Health in Texas) During this time, I was actively recruited to lead HR Center of Excellence for $4.5B St. Joseph Health enterprise with 16 hospitals, ~80 ambulatory care centers, and home health care operating across 3 states. Successfully and efficiently, I led and held full responsibility for all 50+ state, federal, and local leave types (FMLA/CFRA, CA PDL, USERRA, etc.), disability insurance programs, SSDI, the ADA/FEHA Interactive Process, and all leave‐related insurance programs for all of St. Joseph Health with a total of ~28,000 union/non‐union employees. Ultimately, I averaged 1,200 reasonable accommodation cases per month; 20–30 terminations per month; and 3,000 leaves per month. Also, I drove a drastic ~95% reduction in litigation/claims by becoming deeply involved with facility leadership & HR, regional HR, and Legal teams. In addition, I was awarded authority to approve terminations without Legal department’s consent due to subject matter expertise, a first for St. Joseph Health. Furthermore, I teamed with Legal to educate field/HR partners, line supervisors, managers, and executives on LOA, ADA, and FEHA, as well as on related HR issues with employee relations, payroll/wage and hour, benefits, talent, learning and development, and compensation. Successfully lead and developed a high performing team of four. This development resulted in internal and external opportunities that otherwise would not have been available to this team. Show less
