Commercial Law Internship Experience
-
Jul 2021 - Jul 2021
On the first day of this scheme, I attended fascinating talks from Clyde & Co, Slaughter & May, Herbert Smith Freehills, CMS, Macfarlanes, and Ashurst about areas including Legal Thinking Skills, Corporate Litigation, M&A and Global Banking. I also enjoyed workshops from Bright Network employees on being a model professional and problem solving. On the second day, I attended very engaging talks from Clyde & Co about International Arbitration about Slaughter & May about ESG, as well as workshops on collaboration and leadership. I also began my work sample from Slaughter & May, simulating giving advice to a car manufacturer on the impacts of new environmental regulations. Finally on the third day, there were talks on Negotiation from Slaughter & May, and on CVs and applications from the Bright Network team, as well as the chance to complete the work sample. The scheme was incredibly enlightening and engaging and I gained many skills, as well as knowledge of new areas of law.

I attended this week-long scheme, which was made up of many talks on legal skills and different areas of law. I gained a great deal of knowledge about legal areas such as competition law, litigation, and financial services. The scheme also encouraged consideration of the future, with talks on the impact of Brexit, the pandemic, and legal technology. In addition, I improved my preparation for applications with employability and application workshops.
