      When booting a large number of cluster nodes, some will get stuck. To solve this, an analysis of the current PXE implementation must be done, identifying the problems and defining root cause of the problem. This involved building a virtual test setup to simulate network characteristics, research in the applicability and reliability of the traffic control mechanisms in Linux/iproute and VMware needed to be done. Also performance testing, measuring and analysis of the results. I have implemented a proof of concept booting over TCP/HTTP instead of the traditional UDP/TFTP method. This setup is generic and can be applied to other netboot mechanisms as well. Show less
