Bio
Nicola (Nic) Miragliuolo
As Executive Director of Boston Youth Wrestling Jose has grown the organization to 12 programs serving over 200 mostly middle school aged youth. BYW student-wrestlers are primarily students of color living in low income Boston neighborhoods with minimal access to quality after school programming. As a Boston native and current Boston Public School teacher, Jose is deeply involved in his community and passionate about not just the sport of wrestling, but about giving children the tools to become successful adults and leaders in their own community. Jose started BYW with a handful of his own students in 2011 with no funding or school support. Since then BYW has been awarded grants from organizations such as the Lenny Zakim fund and The Boston Foundation while also building key partnerships with Boston Boy and Girls Club and Boston Public Schools. Jose has been able to translate this support into real impact as BYW alumni have gone on to attend local colleges such as Boston University, Northeastern, and UMASS Boston. As BYW continues to grow, programs have expanded to include academic mentorship and job training.

I have extensive experience founding high school wrestling programs from scratch at several Boston Public Schools, including TechBoston Academy, Boston Latin Academy, and the John D O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science. I am currently the Head Varsity Coach at Boston Latin Academy. As a head coach at the youth and high school levels, I create engaging workout plans to build student-athletes’ core strength, cardiovascular stamina, calisthenic movements, and wrestling fundamentals; I have developed a unique approach to incorporating social-emotional wellness and character building traits within practice setting through use of restorative justice circles; and I emphasize values like hard work, discipline, and academic success to motivate student-athletes above and beyond solely athletic achievements. I have successfully coached numerous student-athletes to sectional, state and New England place finishes at both the youth and high school levels, and I am a qualified coach with certifications from USA Wrestling, MIAA and NFHS, I am a member of the NHSCA, and I am First Aid/CPR/AED certified. In 2021, the non-profit I founded merged with Beat the Streets Providence to become Beat the Streets New England, an organization that I now act as Co-Founder and Vice Chair. This new entity now serves 1,000+ students each year in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
