In this role, I have had the opportunity to upskill myself in both, technical and management areas. We have systems in place to facilitate high sample numbers and short turnarounds. I am fully trained in operating CombiFoss instruments that can process 600 samples per hour (for fat, protein, lactose, & SnF). I am also trained in a limited range of quality tests including thermodurics, inhibitory substances, and bacterial cell count (BactoScan). The test results we provided are important in determining how much the farmer is paid, what the milk might be used for, or whether the milk is suitable for use. I gained experience in testing samples for bovine milk cell count or somatic cell count to check for signs of mastitis or the presence of antibiotics. Apart from this, I was involved and fully trained in milk production that is conducted for a third party. I have hands on experience in milk formulation to ensure that its composition sits within the required specifications. I also have experience using the fogg filler which is a semi automated equipment to bottle milk samples. I worked as a team leader some days of the week.
