All the atoms exist in different regioisomeric forms. Because of a wide spectrum of biological activites, oxadiazoles have occupied a specific place in natural products chemistry and medicinal chemistry as well. Out of the four possible isomers… Show more "Design and synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted-1,3,4-oxadiazoles as potential COX inhibitors" Summary: Oxadiazoles are 5 membered heteroaromatic rings containing two carbons, two nitrogens and one oxygen atom, having a general formula C2H2ON2. All the atoms exist in different regioisomeric forms. Because of a wide spectrum of biological activites, oxadiazoles have occupied a specific place in natural products chemistry and medicinal chemistry as well. Out of the four possible isomers, 1,3,4-oxadiazoles are widely exploited for various applications. However, only few molecules are known to have anti-inflammatory activity. Structure activity relationship studies already reported in the literature indicate that oxadiazole moiety along with biaryl rings are important for anti-inflammatory activity. Using this information, ten derivatives of 2,5-disubstituted-1,3,4-oxadiazole, were synthesized and characterized with the help of various spectroscopic techniques. Further, substitutions at important position of carbon contained in biaryl ring increased the selectivity of oxadiazole compounds.
