This is my family’s business where I work during the weekends and holiday periods. I have gained substantial experience dealing with the general public. My role includes operating the till, card machine and banking cash. I also meet and greet customers as they enter the shop and offer my services to assist them with their purchases. Working in such an environment I have learned the importance of listening. My confidence has grown, and I can now adapt to different situations positively. I also oversee the running both an Instagram and Facebook page for the business which has given me the chance to see social media trends and learn about how best to advertise brands. Show less

Within this job role, I have undertaken many different roles, from bar work to being a server to assisting the event manager in the set-up and preparation for the event. The focus is weddings, but I have worked at some corporate events also. This job role gives me great experience for a future career path designed for my degree. It has also boosted my confidence in communicating with the public and handling issues in a fast-paced high-stress environment. I now understand fully what goes into an event from the start to finish due to having this experience. Show less

Working in a fast-paced coffee shop during the summer, especially the summer after a year of lockdowns boosted my confidence greatly. I was able to work on my memory skills remembering ever changing menus and specials every shift to remembering the regular’s coffee orders. I was also able to gain interchangeable skills whether I was the barista for the shift or having a waitressing role I made sure I gave 100% always and ensured the customers had a great experience. Having the responsibility of closing and opening the shop some days has also made me very efficient and confident when it comes to working alone in a time scale. Show less

Working in a busy supermarket during the pandemic was very motivating, it is a very fast-paced job with pressures to complete tasks during a certain time. I work the late shift or the very early morning shift, so this has allowed me to use time management skills well. We need to work in teams to ensure all jobs are done which involves using your initiative to ensure the tasks are done to a great standard. Working for such a big company has made me realise just how complex the running of a supermarket can be. I have worked with both grocery food and fresh, making sure dates were correct and met food trading standards. This job has made me feel confident working quickly under pressure. Show less
