Dr. Morten is one of those gifted scientist for whom I have great admiration. We both worked in the same laboratory at National Institute on Aging for more than 3 and a half years. Dr. Morten is exceptionally talented, highly skilled and intelligent scientist. His ability to independently design experiments and troubleshoot complex problems is unmatched. During his tenure at NIA, he did excellent work to understand the pre-mature aging and neurodegenerative diseases. He won many prestigious awards for his outstanding contributions in the field. He has a very simple personality, ready to help attitude and ability to work as a team. It is my pleasure to highly recommend him.

Morten is a very driven individual who is extremely passionate about his work. I had the pleasure of working on his project where he demonstrated the role of CSB in clearing damaged mitochondria from cells and thus preventing their accumulation. It was an example of his leadership skills as he was singly responsible for designing and executing his thoughts into an excellent paper. Besides, he also managed to mobilize his co-workers and set up collaborations. I wish he succeeds in his scientific goals.

This site was created for the scientific community to investigate possible links between clinical symptoms seen in genetic diseases and mitochondrial pathology. The idea was based on the observation that several rare diseases of unknown etiology displayed similar clinical presentation to known mitochondrial diseases. Coding was done in php, mysql, html, html5 and javascript. As a med. student I started this online company recruiting volunteers to basic scientific studies. With up to 100.000 hits monthly this has grown to become the largest single provider of research volunteers in Denmark. The homepage has been featured on TV, radio and most of the danish national newspapers. As a med. student I started this online company recruiting volunteers to basic scientific studies. Visiting fellow at the National Institute on Aging, NIH. My work at the NIA has focused on the cross-talk between DNA repair and mitochondrial function in neurodegeneration and aging. Using in silico, in vitro and in vivo methods I have investigated the molecular basis of several accelerated aging disorders. This work has resulted in a number of publications.

I worked as a general practitioner and took care of the emergency room in the medical facility in Nuuk, Greenland. In addition I performed various forensic duties as well as being involved in a substantial amount of social medicine. I did a 6 months internship in the orthopedics department mostly managing the emergency room. Often being the only doctor in the emergency room I performed both day and night shifts and was part of the trauma team. This entailed acute treatment of high energy trauma patients most often caused by traffic accidents. This was followed by a 6 month stay at the department of internal medicine where I did traditional ward rounds as well as managing the medical emergency room. I taught third year medical students microscopic and macroscopic anatomy of the internal organs covering everything from the reproductive system to the oropharynx. The setup was primarily classroom teaching with about 20 students in each class. In total more than 150 Danish MDs have received a substantial amount of their anatomical training under my supervision.

In the lab of prof. Bjørn Quistorff I worked on mitochondrial bioenergetics. We investigated the regulatory effect of phosphate on mitochondrial respiration in muscle tissue from rats. I performed high resolution respirometry, mitochondrial isolation procedures and muscle fiber dissection. We additionally performed nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to investigate the levels of phosphorous compounds in permeabilized skeletal muscle.
