Sydney, Australia John 'Herman' Winning gave me an education in understanding and a serving a full business, exceptional customer service, and a model for building employee engagement. It was an amazing time to be at Winnings - growing from 30 people to 150 when Cam and I left to start Sparro. We'd built sites, bought businesses, hacked some things and sold a lot of SR215MW Samsung Fridges. Herman, Pete Harris, Ellen Stanley, Jo Devery and others were fantastic mentors.

Sydney Blackglass was my only taste of agency work prior to Sparro, and I absolutely loved the diversity of clients and team. Working across eHarmony, Kohler, Curves and ShopaDocket, I learnt all of the early agency lessons - managing expectations, gaining clarity on objectives, and working with different personalities. Warren Barry was my win-them-all pitch mentor, and Ben Blachere gave me a model for exceptional client management.

Sydney, Australia Straight out of uni I took a job 'writing for the web', which turned out to be 'SEO 2008'. The husband and wife team taught me everything from coding websites and email newsletters, to negotiating affiliate rates and managing email databases. I loved every minute and we had massive success as a team - increasing organic traffic 300%.

Sydney, Australia Years ago I got the lucky start that I had dreamed of - being paid to write! A colleague and I wrote 'CareerFAQs - Property' and edited 'Journalism' and 'Publishing', ironically. I learnt that some hobbies are best as hobbies, and that you can't claim writer's block when it's your job! Will Santow later pivoted CareerFAQs into a fully-online business and spun off LongtailUX.
