As the legal support assistant in a team of 12 in-house commercial lawyers I performed a quasi-paralegal role. Given the size and diversity of the legal team at Shell, I gained experience in the following areas of work: joint ventures; oil and gas licensing; decommissioning; due diligence; health and safety; major projects; contracting and procurement and I had extensive involvement with the employment law team which sits in London. Particularly interesting areas I was involved in were the Brent Decommissioning Project and the Peterhead Carbon Capture and Storage project.I managed the transition of all legal and commercial documents from BG Group to Shell. The work I received was extremely varied and typically included: preparing for employment tribunals; reviewing contracts; assisting in drafting, negotiating, and updating contractual provisions; conducting detailed and comprehensive legal research for all levels of legal counsel; drafting and publishing advice notes internally; preparing and delivering in-house presentations; interpreting European Union Directives and Regulations; performing due diligence and assisting in the creation, organisation and completion of data rooms.Furthermore, I was the custodian for the Commercial Agreements Portal for the UK and the focal point for DECC notifications and HSE Personal Injury Claims.
