  After gaining employment immediately after graduation in a field that aligned with my collegiate studies, I was restless living in my hometown. I took the opportunity to judiciously save during that time period in order to make a solo trip abroad. I enjoyed independently planning so that I could experience Europe for its rich culture and employment opportunities. In spending time with locals as well as with other individuals traveling, I gained an increased appreciation for diverse ideas and experiences. My days were filled with culture, exploration and adventure. While in Paris, I volunteered for a TedX event, scheduled to debut in May 2016. The event, titled Beyond Our Limits, showcases speakers from around the world who dare to push the limits in order to overcome mental and physical obstacles.   Buckeye Fresh is a hydroponic vertical farm which uses a controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) technology, where all environmental factors can be controlled. My duties included assisting with seeding, harvesting, and packaging of products along with performing various R&D projects, documenting results, and offering recommendations to improve yields and quality of product. In regards to the research and development projects, I tested 20 different lettuce varieties to reveal a product that would produce the heaviest overall weight that also proved to be very palatable.   During my undergrad studies I assisted my botany professor in researching the invasive species Reed Canarygrass. I used DNA markers to examine the genetic structure of Ohio populations and used PCR (polymerase chain reaction) to amplify and analyze samples of DNA collected from 15 populations in different regions and watersheds. Further research is needed in order to better answer questions regarding the invasion history of Reed Canarygrass in Ohio.

  Life Steps Training summer and winter camps are programs provided by Medina Creative Accessibility, a non-profit organization which provides Medicaid Certified Supportive Services to individuals with disabilities and those who care for them. My main objective as a camp counselor was to help children and adults with cognitive and functional disabilities stabilize, increase and/or sustain their highest level of functioning so that clients can maintain skills needed to live as independently as possible at home and in the community. I also provided educational and social activities to include social skills, group activities such as arts, crafts and games, meal planning and preparation, maintaining home, cleaning and lawn care, and community field trips. Throughout the duration of the camps, I also worked with clients at Medina Creative Therapy Ranch. The ranch offers horse back riding lessons where individuals with disabilities learn skills instilling confidence, independence and further their physical and social skills. Show less
