      Gene editing and genetic transformation in Fast-Flowering Mini-Maize I am currently working on developing a line of Fast-Flowering Mini-Maize (FFMM) that is amenable to genetic transformation. I am also working on developing a routine protocol for transformation of FFMM editing gene in FFMM using CRISPR/Cas9 technology as a proof-of-concept. I am also working on transformation of maize by the developmental genes Babyboom and Wuschel2, and we have developed a routine protocol in collaboration with Corteva Agrisciences. I am also collaborating with Ursula Frei of the Doubled Haploid Facility on a project to make a transformable maize inducer line that can be used for Cas9 gene editing of maternal haploids. We are also applying the developmental genes transformation technology to an established haploid inducer line as proof-of-concept.       Evaluated the transmission rates of chromosomes with differently sized centromeres through meiosis as an examination of the centromere-drive hypothesis. Utilized Fluorescence in situ Hybridization (FISH) in both mitotic and meiotic cells, trained undergraduates to perform FISH, and led them to make meaningful contributions in the project. Utilized fluorescence microscopy, karyotyping, and single-gene FISH for identification of transgene insertion locations to inform a breeding strategy to accumulate as many transgene copies as possible.
