My duties as a facility assistant at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex (owned and operated by the City of West Des Moines) skate sharpening, utilization of ice maintenance equipment for rentals of all ages from 6u to AHL, and any corrective maintenance we encounter a need for. Additionally, I help with routine indoor/outdoor turf and basketball basketball court maintenance, and other recreational maintenance equipment as needed. Other odds and ends tasks and projects are included in this role depending on what we have happening in the facility. It is my responsibility to keep a knowledge of emergency, evacuation, and bleeding control/first aid/CPR procedures, routine repairs, and general cleaning standards and practices. Rink specific abilities include, but are not limited to: Blade changes/greasing/battery fill/impeller changes/plunger spring replacements Level-Ice laser leveling systems Zamboni electric ice resurfacers and edgers Depth checks Rink tear down, painting, and build out Dasher board repairs and glass replacement Different types of resurfaces and patterns R-717 refrigeration system knowledge I was initially taught what I currently know about ice operations here. This allowed me to gain experience on propane powered resurfacing equipment, gas powered edgers and a recycled R-22 refrigeration plant as opposed to all electric equipment and an R-717 refrigeration plant at the RecPlex.
