Organize and facilitate council-conducted programs such as: -MHC Monthly e-Newsletter: I write/collect articles and edit for the monthly publication. -Speakers Bureau: Our state's finest historians, writers and storytellers talking about a wide variety of subjects related to Mississippi and beyond. For no cost, non-profit organizations can bring these scholars to speak at an event. The MHC selects speakers based on their credentials and the quality of their program and pays them an honorarium for presenting to nonprofit groups around the state. -Museum on Main Street: As part of the Smithsonian Institution, Museum on Main Street (MoMS) is a unique alliance of the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, state humanities councils, and cultural organizations in small, rural communities. MoMS’s exhibitions focus on broad topics of national history and give host museums the opportunity, with support from state humanities councils and guidance from the state scholars, to create their own educational programs, cultural activities, and exhibitions that center on their local heritage. -Family Reading Project: Because reading is essential to the humanities, the MHC provides programs that instill a love of reading, promote an interest in public libraries, and encourage families to read books and talk about ideas together. -Luciérnagas: Since the number of Spanish-speakers in Mississippi has increased dramatically in recent decades, the MHC offers Luciérnagas, a bilingual family reading program. MHC has offered successful “Luci” programs at sites throughout the state, and is looking for additional sites and partners for this important program. Show less
