  • Lang Tengah Turtle Watch
    • Pulau Lang Tengah, Malaysia
    • Research Assistant
      • Aug 2014 - Aug 2017

My original internship for Lang Tengah Turtle Watch started in August 2014. During that time I helped with the Island project, where we patrol beaches to collect Green and Hawksbill Turtle eggs which would otherwise be consumed in the market. The project runs with volunteer help and my internship also involved volunteer care and camp management. The rustic jungle camp gave huge opportunities for a graduate conservationist to learn about field work, including the importance of collaborating with communities on the Island. In 2014 I helped with the writing on a successful grant application to CIMB bank. I remained involved on and off with the project throughout 2015, where I thoroughly enjoyed helping with LTTW Facebook and Instagram as well as contacting The Body Shop and obtaining a sponsorship for one years worth of biodegradable toiletries for the Island. At the end of the 2015 season I was involved with locating and writing proposals for a second LTTW project at Tanjong Jara Resort. In 2017 I returned for 5 months to the Tanjong Jara Resort project. This role was hugely multifaceted including setting up for the season, ensuring a quality was kept at the Island project, promoting healthy inter-resort relations, management of the Green Sea Turtle Hatchery, guest education and community involvement. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges involved with this work on The East Coast of Malaysia. I have developed a deeper passion for community work, as in this part of Malaysia many of the conservation problems will only be resolved through positive community engagement. I also enjoy making conservation work economically for local communities, and understand that practically this often the way forward to protect the environment. Show less

    • Assistant Manager
      • Nov 2015 - Feb 2017

I worked as assistant manager at our family Bed and Breakfast seasonly. Roles are varied and very much involve getting on with it. Tasks include cooking guest breakfasts, cleaning and changing bedrooms, taking payments from guests, answering the phone, taking new bookings, updating the website, keeping paperwork up to date such as sales receipts into the business accounts, small DIY tasks, cleaning blocked drains and even wading in the pond to clear of litter. I am very hands on, and willing to do a variety of tasks. This role has a variety of hours that are natural with a hotel environment, with some days starting at 6am and finishing at 11pm and I am therefore flexible and understanding with this. Show less

Bartending and Waitressing work at the Smith and Western was a fantastic opportunity to work in a busy and vibrant restaurant. Skills improved during my time at the Smith and Western included customer service, working in a team and general maintenance of cleanliness behind the bar. I had a brief break from work at the Smith and Western for 5 months during a trip travelling, but I am resumed working part time as a barmaid as of January 2016 when I returned for a year, working around commitments to Stantons Hall Farm and to my own website. I love working in a social environment, both with my work colleagues and customers and so thoroughly enjoyed my part time work here. Show less

I undertook a short contract of work, as a contractor of Wild Business Ltd for Rewilding Britain between April and June 2016. Rewilding Britain wanted to create a Knowledge Bank, to make accessing key information easy for a range of sector, from politicians to the public. The work required me to scan Mendeley for all records relating to key Rewilding topics, check they are relevant and tag them with relevant search terms for future reference. All relevant information produced by NGO's was also added into the Knowledge Bank. I thoroughly enjoyed this work, as this is a topic that I find hugely interesting. Show less
