I have developed and taught a number of courses for undergraduate students and professionals, including Introduction to Wildland Fire, Fire Ecology, Forest Ecology, Fire Monitoring and Modeling, Fuel Treatments and Modeling, and graduate seminar. In addition, I maintain an active research program that has covered a number of topics, including fire effects in the Gila National Forest, buffelgrass spread in Saguaro National Park, effects of post-fire herbicide application in Zion National Park, effects of post-fire seeding, and long-term effects of wildfire in northern Arizona. I took the lead on completing a synthesis of research on fire and fuels management in ponderosa pine forests in the Southwest, the Colorado Front Range, and the Black Hills of South Dakota. The synthesis was published as a general technical report by the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station.
