Dr. Farshad Nasrollahi

I know Mr. Mojtaba Samimi from a period that he worked as senior researcher from 15.02.2011 to 15.05.12 at Berlin Institute of Technology, Faculty VI: Planning – Building – Environment. He has done a research at Section of

Farzin Haghparast

Mojtaba has done an excellent job on solar design and simulation method. He is an architect as well as software programmer related to solar design, novelty of his work is unavoidable.

SOLARCHVISION software tools are authored to help improve comfort and energy performance of buildings, urban spaces and renewable energy systems by considering in detail the variable effects of the sun, local climate, weather forecast data and design parameters over time. • Was involved in various aspects of a large-scale software development. • Developed software units to interact with web services and download real-time data from the internet. • Developed complex simulation engines. • Developed a high performance image processing system. • Developed the graphical user interface (GUI), objects e.g. menus, sidebars, spinners, etc. • Developed the command line user interface. • Developed the environment to create, modify and display 3D models and other objects. • Developed software units to import the data from other CAD software packages. • Developed software units to export models with baked simulation results (i.e. BIM-6D) to OBJ format or interactive web. • Developed software units to save and load projects (XML format). • Developed software units to input and post-process data from various formats e.g. XML, GRIB2 (binaries), TMY, CWEEDS. • Developed software units to generate and output data visualization graphs in different formats e.g. PDF, PNG, JPG, GIF. • Authored chapter 12 of the book “Future City Architecture for Optimal Living”, Rassia, S., Pardalos, P. (Eds.), Optimization and Its Applications Series, Springer, Switzerland. • Performing climate impact analysis and writing reports to OCPM (Office de Consultation Publique de Montreal) regarding various urban and building projects. • Custom software development and various sustainability analysis reports on medium and large scale architectural and urban design projects as demonstrated in this book: https://depositonce.tu-berlin.de/bitstream/11303/4243/1/young_cities_research_paper_series_9.pdf

      • Developed operational software tools for vertical interpolation and post-processing units that use multiple levels of high-resolution weather forecast data and newer algorithms (i.e. to calculate icing and provide other 2D/3D variables of interest for specific wind farm locations in Canada). • Was involved in different aspects of software development e.g. making different working prototypes, solver development, unit testing and improving the architecture of tools and maestro suite to conform CCMEP's operational needs. • Developed different software modules and executables to efficiently ingest high-resolution matrices (big data), perform interpolations (in time and space), compute intermediate/final variables in parallel (multi-threading using advanced Fortran 95) and export the results in standard binary formats as well as JSON & ASCII tables. • Developed back-end software tools in Python 2 & 3 (using numpy, matplotlib and pandas libraries) to ingest observations and forecasts into Emet verification system and make them ready for AI intern researchers. • Developed front-end software tools using HTML and native JavaScirpt to display data in tables & graphs (on the fly) useful to facilitate comparison of calculations between old and new versions (v.2 & v.3) during 2017-2018 winter period.

      • January 2015 - April 2015 : Designed, developed and delivered the first version of a software product called CanMETEO in collaboration with Natural Resources Canada, CanmetENERGY Research Centre in Varennes, Quebec. This user-friendly tool facilitated the access to the high resolution forecast data of Canadian Meteorological Centre at desired locations and provided solar data on different surface orientations and inclinations ready for building control and renewable energy systems in Canada. The first version of CanMETEO was developed on top of Java language and it came with both GUI and command options in French and English. • April 2015 - September 2016 : Supported the release of CanMETEO tool version 1 (Java – Windows) and collaborated with NRCan/CanmetENERGY as well as the community of users e.g. research groups from Ryerson and Concordia Universities. Also created prototypes to conform with the latest upgrades of high-resolution forecast data and domains.
