  • Works with the Head of Cataloging to develop the long term strategic goals and objectives of the Qatar National Library cataloging team. Catalogs different resources and maintains authority records. Edits and processes data files and MARC records from vendors and various bibliographic utilities. Assists with the ordering of various library materials. Supervises the copy cataloging operations of the team and works closely with colleagues in Technical Services. Maintains the department's quality of work while employing innovative technologies and practices. Main duties: 1. Perform original and complex copy cataloging of print and electronic resources. 2. Processing and cataloging for heritage collections. 3. Archival description metadata, i.e. Dublin Core – MODS- VRA Core-CCO-EAD) 4. Keep up-to-date with LC and OCLC technologies and policies, as well as national trends in bibliographic control. 5. Ensure quality of bibliographic records through compliance with international and local standards such as RDA, MARC, AACR2r, LCSH, LCCS, OCLC, LC cataloging practices, and other appropriate cataloging and metadata standards. 6. Using batch search on both OCLC & MarcEditor to speed up the process. 7. Create and maintain authority records to enable standardization. 8. Assist with ordering library materials and liaise with vendors to ensure timely delivery, as needed. 9. Download, edit and upgrade data files and MARC records from vendors and bibliographic utilities into the Library Management System. 10. Upload the Qatar National Library holdings into the OCLC database to improve access to the information held in libraries around the globe. 11. Assist in updating cataloging policies and procedures to ensure compliance with international standards, rules and best practices. 12- Provide recommendations for the improvement and streamlining of processes and workflows. 13. Identify training needs in consultation with the Head of Cataloging Department. Show less
