The Multimedia Anthropology Lab is a research network that examines the potential of multimedia tools (film, virtual reality, machine learning, data sonification/ visualisation...) in anthropological research. In this role, I worked towards the planning and execution of a four-day academic conference 'Multimedia Encounters: Experimental Approaches to Ethnographic Research', which was attended by over 1500 people from 78 different countries. I lead the production of the accompanying virtual reality exhibition, where I was able to develop skills ranging from three-dimensional modelling and design to leadership and communication. I also contributed to reworking the website in order to prepare for the surge in traffic and organised the virtual reality & machine learning research hubs. My work for the lab culminated in a paper 'Recursive Alterity: Experiments in Virtual Reality and Machine Learning', which I presented at the conference on the 'Algorithmic Thinking' panel alongside other researchers from MIT, Lancaster University and Akademie Schloss Solitude. Other duties included operating the livestream and writing/ editing the exhibition texts.

Fetchish is an experimental magazine seeking to document new media art through both traditional and innovative ways (including non-textual narratives). Recently, Fetchish has branched out internationally (Moscow) and organised hybrid gatherings/exhibition events with sponsors such as Beluga Hunting. As the Editor, I oversee submissions made to our website and quarterly printed issues. I also occasionally make my own contributions (a selection of these is attached below) developed out of collaborations with artists and collectives. Other responsibilities include designing and managing the website, as well as digitising our printed issues.

Forming part of UCL's Access and Widening Participation, the transition mentor programme aims to support first-year students in their transition to university in the form of weekly meetings and occasional socials. Having worked as a Transition Mentor in 2019/20, I have been promoted to the position of Senior Mentor. This role involves administrative and communicative duties, such as overseeing the standard of other mentors' work and relaying messages from the department.

The Bloomsbury Festival is a ten-day event celebrating the arts. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many events had to be socially distant and live-streamed to a larger audience. The filming and web-streaming team worked on implementing the technical infrastructure necessary to make this happen.During the festival, I filmed creative, handheld shots of these live events using a Canon XF305, which were then live-streamed via Zoom. I also worked on sound, real-time vision mixing and helped out with the transportation and setting up of hardware on a range of sites.

The Stern Pissarro Gallery (est. 1964) specialises in Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary art, including the works of Camille Pissarro and his descendants. Following my two month summer internship, I was promoted to the position of Gallery Assistant. The fast-paced nature of a commercial gallery in central London means I was able to learn how to prioritise and sort through many tasks while also responding to the needs of visitors. My role involved a range of administrative tasks such as generating invoices, valuation/ appraisal for insurance purposes and consignment agreements with artists; helping out with applications for export licenses (directed at the Arts Council) and requests for issuing certificates of authenticity; as well as managing the CRM (ArtSolution). This role allowed me to become familiar with sales and marketing platforms (Mailchimp and 1stdibs, Artsy etc.). Other duties involved documenting artworks and editing these photographs in Photoshop.

    • Archive Cataloguing Assistant
      • Sep 2019 - Dec 2019

The Marco Goldschmied Foundation is an architectural foundation that developed a project to archive and catalogue a collection of artworks by Will Alsop. I worked in a team throughout the entire duration of the project, which included around 600 artefacts that have not been opened over an extended period of time. This role combined the handling of objects and their recording. I assessed and recorded damage; performed cleaning and dusting; and eventually re-packaged them using acid-free, museum grade tissue paper. The cataloguing consisted of capturing the works using a DSLR and inputting object data into an inventory management system (ArtLogic).

The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art is one of the biggest art and culture centres in Russia, which operates as both an exhibition space and research centre. Garage places particular emphasis on fostering accessibility and inclusion; therefore some of my tasks included work in the inclusive programmes department. As an intern, I was able to gain experience in visitor experience and office-based tasks. My duties ranged from checking tickets and giving out blankets to helping with the setup/ cleaning of the museum’s outdoor cinema ‘Garage Screen’. I also offered support and assistance at evening lectures. In terms of office work, this included translating subtitles for video art exhibits and documents, as well as aggregating data generated through art exhibits in Excel.
