I support the nursing staff for teenage boys at the Utah State Hospital by providing safe and effective treatment to patients. I help patients achieve personal goals and provide example and council to help them through their individual and group treatment plans. I help patients with their ADL’s, and participate in activities to instill appropriate behaviors and beliefs into their lives. I observe the symptoms and behaviors of patients and reported them to the nursing staff. I intervene in quick and effective ways when patients are in unsafe circumstances during their treatment at the hospital. I enjoy working with the teenage boys as I attribute many of the principles and beliefs that have led to my successes in life to experiences I had with mentors when I was a teenager. I taught Spanish to young adult volunteers preparing to embark on 18 month-2 year religious service missions. I taught the language to groups of 6-12 young adults for periods of 6 weeks at a time. Most of these volunteers embarking on missions had little to no experience learning Spanish before their time at the MTC. I used immersive language teaching techniques to efficiently help these missionaries reach their goals and attain levels of language mastery as outlined by my department. I interacted and trained with other Spanish teachers and leaders through my time at the MTC. We were constantly trained in language teaching philosophy. It was truly a miracle to witness how language can be learned and mastered so quickly through hard work, adequate training and spiritual effort. I was a mentor for the missionaries and talked to them as companionships and 1x1 to help them navigate the changes they were going through including leaving their homes/countries, implementing a new and taxing daily schedule, learning a new language for the first time, etc. I helped the missionaries set worthy and attainable goals that helped push them and achieve their potentials.
